Mardi, Mardi, Mardi Gras

Continuing the discussion of my Cube Farm parties, the drill is, you either sign up to bring food, or you pay $5 for pizza. Honestly, given the cost of ingredients, it’s always a better deal to pay for pizza because you’re allowed to enjoy everything. BUT WHERE’S THE FUN IN THAT?! I love to cook, but lately I’ve waited until the last minute and ended up just paying up. But this time? Virgin Hurricanes!

Many thanks to YumSugar.com for a great recipe:

Virgin Hurricane
From Sacramento & Co

3 oz orange juice
3 oz pineapple juice
1 oz sweet-and-sour mix
1/2 oz grenadine

In Hurricane glass or tall glass, pour juices over ice.
Top with grenadine syrup.
Garnish with fresh pineapple and orange slices.

Now, I made mine in a bucket, so the grenadine was mixed in. Here were my proportions:

3 quarts orange juice
3 quarts pineapple juice
32 oz sweet-and-sour mix (I used the easy-to-find Rose’s Sweetened Lime Juice)
16 oz grenadine (also easy-to-find Rose’s Genadine)

The other part is that George and I determined this is great with an added splash of Vodka, Gin and Rum, but that won’t fly at the office.

Although some folks found the drink to be too sweet without liquor (and I have to agree) the overall consensus was that it was terrific! My friends especially appreciated the orange slice garnish and tiny straw, which made me feel pretty good. One girl told me she had hers around 2-ish and felt like she had a little bit of vacation on her desk. Mission accomplished 🙂

And te rest of the gang? The usual yummy stuff! King Cake and muffins for breakfast, and at lunch, pizza, sausages marinated in barbecue sauce, jambalaya, shrimp cocktail, crab macaroni & cheese, buffalo chicken dip with chips, chicken and dumplings, various salads, HOLY MOLY! It’s a heck of a lot of fun to be around people who like to feed people. It’s not the gluttony. It’s the nurturing, the friendly compliments, the recipe swapping…warm & fuzzy camaraderie.

I may complain about my job, and I complain about certain sets of people there. But these people…The Potluckers…this is a quality group of genuine, kind people. LOVE YOU GUYS!
